11 May Employee Spotlight: Bernie Morris
Name:
Bernie Morris
Began working at Blessings International:
August 2004
Role:
I have had the distinct privilege to serve Blessings International in different capacities over the last fifteen years. I currently have the honor of serving in the role of Chief Financial Officer.
If you had to compare yourself to a TV-show character, who would you be, and why?
Man, this is tough! I would have to say a mixture of Dr. Lisa Cuddy from “House” and Pam Beesley from “The Office.” I like to think I am a harmoniously blend of professional and fun loving. 🙂
Describe the part you play at Blessings:
I work alongside the Board of Trustees and CEO to ensure that we are meeting our financial goals and are compliant in our transactions. I oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, assets, risk mitigation, and investments. Due to the size and nature of our organization, I manage operational responsibilities in addition to financial responsibilities. I also view myself as fostering camaraderie and team collaboration among staff.
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
Two of my favorite aspects are:
1) I love the people I work with. We have an incredible staff with eager hearts ready to serve. It is such an encouragement and honor to be part of an amazing team.
2) There is never a dull moment. No two days are similar, although there will be the occasional Wednesday that feels just like a Monday. (Ha!) We are continually trying to improve our processes to serve the medical missions community better.
Where have you served in a missional capacity?
I have served in both Haiti and Honduras.
Where/How would you like to serve in the future?
I would love to serve again in Central America, perhaps Costa Rica or Guatemala.
What was your last staff devotional about?
My last staff devotional was about growing in your faith. The spring of 2020 has proven to be unprecedented and unique times in terms of health and economic challenges, but our God is greater than any circumstance. I gave staff a charge to read Ephesians 1:15-23 for 30 days. As you read this, I would encourage you do to the same!
What is your best memory here at Blessings?
I have so many fond memories of the last fifteen years here at Blessings. Moving into our new building in September 2010 ranks as one of my top memories. More recently though, last summer, we had an ice cream truck come to our facility and serve us. The weather was perfect, the ice cream was delicious, and the companionship was priceless. It warmed my heart to see everyone outside in the sun enjoying a well-deserved break and one another’s company.
