Life in a Single Bottle

“Can you help?”

The request came as a simple message, but Peggy Stranges, founder of Clinica Esperanza in Roatan, Honduras, knew it meant the difference between life and death.

The message was from a missionary friend on the Honduras mainland, Valerie. She wasn’t asking for herself but on behalf of a sixty-year-old widow, Gloria*. Not only was Gloria’s brain tumor malignant, but there was no way the dear woman could afford radiation and medication. She’d already undergone extensive testing, two biopsies, and an MRI.

“She needs forty tablets of Temozolomide,” Valerie explained, “but at the local oncology pharmacy, the cost is $116 per tablet. She can’t afford even one dose, let alone forty for $4,640.”

Peggy didn’t have any Temozolomide in her pharmacy, but she agreed to help Gloria. Immediately, Peggy reached out to Blessings International. Though it is not a medication Blessings typically stocks, we did a special order that cost only $160 for the entire regimen.

When Gloria heard that the medicine was on its way to her, she cried tears of joy.

Now, weeks later, Gloria has completed her radiation therapy and is in recovery. Praise the Lord!

“A true miracle for this dear widow,” Clinica Esperanza said in a recent e-newsletter. “Our hearts are happy when we can bring hope in the form of a miracle to the people of Honduras.”
